Mongoose forum posts of note

This week Mongoose Publishing posted an announcement that the current range of PARANOIA products will be retired at the end of this month, in advance of this summer's 25th Anniversary line, starting with the PARANOIA: Troubleshooters rulebook and the Black Missions limited edition.

On the Mongoose forum, this announcement prompted a question about compatibility between the forthcoming PARANOIA Anniversary rulebooks and the existing support line. Mongoose staff writer Gareth Hanrahan, designer of the 25th Anniversary rulebooks, replied:
The new rules are 95+% compatible with the previous edition. I can only surmise that most of the older supplements are sold out, and the remaining stock is fast dwindling. I'll attempt to bring Those Who Know into this thread.
Speaking of the Mongoose forum: Saturday, June 20th is Free RPG Day, where participating game stores worldwide distribute free roleplaying material. This year Mongoose has prepared a special 32-page PARANOIA booklet including quick-start rules and a brief introductory mission. On the Mongoose forum, an enterprising citizen who got this booklet in advance of the day itself (treason point!) asked about a loyalty test accidentally omitted from the Free RPG Day booklet (treason point for, uh, somebody else to be named later!). In response, Gareth posted the text of the entertaining form right in the topic. Commendation point, Gareth!

Black Missions DVD - hints & foreshadowings

Mongoose Publishing CEO Matthew Sprange's latest blog entry mentions the forthcoming 25th Anniversary "Black Missions" edition of PARANOIA:
Charlotte [Law, staff editor] has been slaving away at the new PARANOIA rulebook (for Troubleshooters), as well as the Limited Edition version, entitled Black Missions. This comes with a free disc that has oodles of PARANOIA material on it, from complete supplements, to forms, to sound files of The Computer speaking (all recorded at Rebellion's own studio), to video interviews with some PARANOIA luminaries - and lots more!
I have asked my secret society leaders to obtain a list of the DVD's contents soon so I can post it here.

PARANOIA: Black Missions Limited Edition

Mongoose has posted details of the forthcoming PARANOIA 25th Anniversary rulebook written by Gareth Hanrahan. Due for publication this August, this is the first of three independent, free-standing anniversary rulebooks, focusing on RED-Clearance Troubleshooter missions. Later rulebooks, not yet scheduled but also to be written by Gareth (get to work, Gareth!), will cover GREEN/BLUE Internal Security investigators and ULTRAVIOLET High Programmers.

(This post is a few days late because Blogger wasn't accepting my new posts. Treason point!)

Mongoose hints about the next PARANOIA

On the Planet Mongoose company blog, Mongoose Publishing CEO summarizes some results from a discussion yesterday about the forthcoming 25th-Anniversary release of three revised PARANOIA rulebooks:
As Lawrence came down to our offices a short while ago to discuss RuneQuest, this week it was the turn of Gareth [Hanrahan], to cover the new PARANOIA this year. We managed to decide on:
  1. The format of the new front covers, and how we would differentiate between Troubleshooters, Int Sec and High Programmer lines.

  2. How to handle the interior artwork to put more 'funny' in.

  3. What the Limited Edition 25th Anniversary book would look like, and what Bonus Fun material would be included.

  4. How to actually produce that free material -- there are a lot of A/V elements planned.

  5. What rules needed changing. After that two-minute discussion, we moved on to what would be added.

  6. And what would be taken out -- Zap and Straight go to appendices...

  7. Not to change the basic layout of the interior, but to accentuate certain aspects.

No, seriously. If you make non-commercial use of stuff here, that's fine, but we reserve all commercial rights, and all rights to prepare derivative material on things posted here. In addition, posters of comments must be aware that we reserve the right to use whatever material they post here, and/or derivative works therefrom, in PARANOIA, supplementary products, licensed products, or derivative work, without any compensation whatever, for all time to come and throughout this universe and any alternate universes that may be discovered. At our discretion, and without obligation, we may, if it strikes our fancy, make a good faith effort to credit you for stuff we use, but we can't promise it won't slip our minds, in the hurly-burly of meeting deadlines. (Actually, we intend to do that, but it's possible we'll screw up.) By posting comments, you grant us a non-revocable, perpetual, non-exclusive license to use whatever you post, in whatsoever fashion we deem useful, here or in any other forum, in PARANOIA or in any and all future products, including but not limited to derivative works, and specifically but not exclusively including the microbrewery beer, ale and porter; salty and sugary snack; and tattoo design rights deriving therefrom.
