Cosmic Encounter returns!

Although it has nothing to do with PARANOIA, I flout that restriction -- fie, I say -- to pass along the news that my all-time favorite boardgame, Cosmic Encounter, is now returning in a new edition from Fantasy Flight Games! Hurrah, huzzah, yippee! Thanks for the tip to the excellent CE fansite, Blogmic Encounter.

What? You're new to Cosmic Encounter? Crikey, it's been out of print a long time. Learn more at Cosmic Encounter Online, a terrific web version created by original CE co-designer Peter Olotka. BoardgameGeek is of course authoritative, and the fansite The Warp will entertain experienced players for hours. Here is my 1992 review of the 1991 Mayfair Games Cosmic Encounter edition, my favorite of all the editions so far -- though I haven't seen this new one.

Comments:
Why the Mayfair love? At the time, Mayfair seemed to inconsistent that I stayed away from anything with their name on it.

I still have the old Eon version (and a shitload of expansions). What did I miss from Mayfair?

Please do not hesitate to endorse seminal or brilliant games designed by People We Like -- "We", in this instance, including you, Greg, and me -- on the Paranoia blog.

Cosmic Encounter qualifies on all counts; and, besides, I and, to a lesser extent, Greg still have the sin of the poor production values of the West End edition to expiate. :)

Best of luck to Peter, Jack, and Bill with the re-publication.

No, seriously. If you make non-commercial use of stuff here, that's fine, but we reserve all commercial rights, and all rights to prepare derivative material on things posted here. In addition, posters of comments must be aware that we reserve the right to use whatever material they post here, and/or derivative works therefrom, in PARANOIA, supplementary products, licensed products, or derivative work, without any compensation whatever, for all time to come and throughout this universe and any alternate universes that may be discovered. At our discretion, and without obligation, we may, if it strikes our fancy, make a good faith effort to credit you for stuff we use, but we can't promise it won't slip our minds, in the hurly-burly of meeting deadlines. (Actually, we intend to do that, but it's possible we'll screw up.) By posting comments, you grant us a non-revocable, perpetual, non-exclusive license to use whatever you post, in whatsoever fashion we deem useful, here or in any other forum, in PARANOIA or in any and all future products, including but not limited to derivative works, and specifically but not exclusively including the microbrewery beer, ale and porter; salty and sugary snack; and tattoo design rights deriving therefrom. Woohoo! Is that enough legalese for you? The Computer is Your Friend.
