New "Ultraviolet" movie

February 24 is the release date for Ultraviolet, a new action flick starring Milla Jovovich and directed by Kurt Wimmer, who previously did the very PARANOIA-like film Equilibrium. (Don't confuse this new film with the 1998 British TV miniseries Ultraviolet.)

From the title onward, Wimmer's Ultraviolet has vague resonances with the Alpha Complex setting:
"In the late 21st Century, a subculture of humans have emerged who have been modified genetically by a vampire-like disease (Hemophagia), giving them enhanced speed, incredible stamina and acute intelligence. As they are set apart from 'normal' and 'healthy' humans, the world is pushed to the brink of worldwide civil war (a war between humans and hemophages) aimed at the destruction of the 'diseased' population. In the middle of this crossfire is an infected woman -- Violet (Jovovich) -- who finds herself protecting a nine-year-old boy who has been marked for death by the human government, as he is believed to be a threat to humans."

Comments:
This Troubleshooter Times review of the trailer just in:

---

A VIOLET Commie charged with protecting a Junior Citizen when the inevitable Psion/Anti-Mutant war breaks out across the complex? Too farfetched? Not at all! ULTRAVIOLET, a cautionary yet uplifting morality play, is coming to a Mandatory VidoCenter near you!

Tella-O-MLY, of course, plays the heroine, who renounces her Commie ways when she sees the horrors secret society membership inflicts on Alpha Complex.

The preview shows Jovovich mostly in INFRARED and RED jumpsuits (modified in non-hormone-suppressant ways), which leads this reviewer to belive that she goes undercover. Not unheard of for INDIGOs, but a little surprising at the VIOLET level. I'm sure the writers will explain that gaffe, as they always do through generous exposition or mind-numbing medications!

Several shots, spoilers no doubt (as if the title of the movie weren't enough), indicate that she eventually gets promoted to ULTRAVIOLET, as she's seen wearing white in several shots.

She also seems, based on her skills, to have been trained by Armed Forces, proving once again that Alpha Complex has the best soldiers.

All in all, it looks to be another outstanding vid from HPD&MC. GO COMPUTER!
